"Playing With Fire"
I wanted to experiment with how I was interacting with these burnt trees - instead of randomly walking through the forest and banging on the burnt tree truck I wanted to be more deliberate and become more intimate with each burnt black spruce tree. I also thought about walking in circles around the trees as a kind of 'slow dance' where the board was completely rotated around the stem before moving on to the next tree. The patterns from this approach are more muted than the "Free at Last" piece and capture the subtle patterns from the charred bark.
