December 7-11th 2015
Gordon Snelgrove Gallery
Department of Art, University of Saskatchewan
Saskatoon, SK
Artists’ Reception Friday December 11th from 4-8 pm
Cam Forrester, Greg Hargarten, Paul Trottier,
Roger Trottier, Ken Van Rees
The Exhibit
Illuviation explores how five painters from different walks of life move into a deeper examination of
the importance of soil in mark making with soil as a pigment. The process of embedding soil into art creates a transformative avenue for the painters by reaffirming our intimate connection with soil that sustains artistic practice and our life.
The year 2015 was declared as the International Year of Soils by the United Nations General
Assembly. Soil is crucial for food, fibre and fuel production, ecosystem health and sustainable
development. There are many areas in the world where soil is at risk of being lost to erosion or
damaged by contaminants. This exhibition is a thematic body of work that creates thoughtful
awareness and celebrates the importance of soil in a healthy society.
