About Men Who Paint Formed in 2007, Men Who Paint embraced plein air painting. Inspired by the work and adventurous spirit of the early Canadian painters, the group, until recently, have spent most of their painting time outdoors. They have painted numerous Canadian locations, including Banff National Park, Ontario’s Algonquin Park, and Yukon’s Ivvavik National Park, and Ellesmere Island, as well as Saskatchewan locations Prince Albert National Park, Lac La Ronge, Emma Lake, and Cypress Hills. Their work can be found in private collections throughout the prairies, and is held in museum collections including the Parks Canada Permanent Collection. Halfway to Heaven Book Halfway to Heaven documents the Men Who Paint’s artistic journey though the remote Ivvavik National Park in the Yukon Territory. At the core of the book are 60 reproductions of paintings chosen from the over 100 done on site after the group was picked from artists across Canada by Parks Canada. The painters slept in tents, visiting various locations on foot, or in some instances by helicopter, to document the National Park which borders Alaska and the Beaufort Sea. Now available on-line. |
